MMVLWiki

This is the MediaWiki site of the Microsystem & Machine Vision Laboratory (MMVL) at Sheffield Hallam University, UK.

Our main research activities involve the design, development and implementation of machine vision techniques targeted at a variety of real-time and non real-time applications which include micro-robotic systems, biological applications, micro-manipulation, microscope imaging, SEM/TEM applications and non-destructive testing of MEMS devices.

The MMVL has been working on a number of European and UK funded research projects, such as Miniman, Micron, I-Swarm and Nanorobotics (also see past projects). The MMVL is also actively involved in consultancy for industry.

If you are interested in a project with the MMVL, please contact us.

Also have a look at the MMVL's open-source Mimas real-time computer vision library / toolkit and at the MMVL's research activities in medical image processing.

If you need assistance, please visit the help section.

News

Food automation demo for MERI science day

New.gif Jun 2007: To apply computer vision one needs to demonstrate feedback and control using real devices. A demonstration involving an industrial robot was put together just in time for the MERI science day. Have a look at the food automation demo for more information.

In Situ Nanomanipulation Workshop and Open Day

New.gif 25 Jun 2007: In context of the Nanorobotics project there is a workshop on nano-manipulation at Sheffield University in Mappin Hall.

Microgripper

New.gif 12 Jun 2007: Julien Demarest finished development of a piezo-driven micromanipulator and handed in his report. You can find more information on the micromanipulator here.

Sheffield Hallam University launching Digital Commons Repository

May 2007: Librarians and publishers are working on a new global scheme for allowing scientific institutions to give public access to their scientific publications! Sheffield Hallam University is contributing to this effort. Have a look at the new Sheffield Hallam University's research archive.

Modular wireless robots

1 May 2007: Jose Luis Gomez Esteve gave his final-year project presentation about modular wireless robots. There are also some videos .
